Welcome

Hi and welcome to my personal blog Motorcycle Paradise, a collection of my riding experiences and the occasion random thought. This site and my attempts at photography are just a hobby and I'm not trying to make either into anything else so some of the road info and photos might be a few years old. More recent info and photos can be found in the ride reports and when I get some time I might transfer this to the original posts. I do not profess to be a word smith so slang, typos and grammar mistakes are all par for the course. Regards IC.

Australia's best motorcycle roads. Whitfield

Mansfield to Whitfield.

Here is another great ride in the north east highlands of Victoria. This road has plenty of variety for a motorcyclist to enjoy, its almost like 4 roads in one. I will describe the road from south to north.

Mansfield is a town servicing the snow resorts you are spoilt there for choices when it comes to good food and coffee. Along with Bright it would make an excellent base for better exploring this superb area - something I might put on my 'to do' list I think.

Leaving Mansfield and entering the hills more you will enjoy first a dryer section of countryside with newish road that has excellent surface and generous surveying and a series of corners that are near perfect.

The corners just flow on and on in this section on the Mansfield side.

After this the road has two sections where you are up in the high country forest and the road narrows but it is still a good quality surface with plenty of curves and another section where you are more in the open following the ridges with some excellent views over the ranges.

After this the road changes again as you descend down towards Whitfield and later on to King Valley, home of some excellent wineries. On the descent you will enjoy a mix of tight corners along with many superb sweepers - yep yet another VIC road with excellent sweepers. This section would work better uphill but the surveying is so good that you can enjoy it in either direction.

Unfortunately I don't have as many photos as is needed to properly show off this magic ride, my rear tyre was nearly bald at the time so I didn't stop in the high forest section or on the descent so that I could cover some ground to get Wangaratta for a new tyre. I regret this now however it was also very very cold up there and at the time I was not equipped for that still so it is another place I shall return to look at again in the future.

Map

Chefs summary: Corners - very twisty, Surface - good.

Many historical towns near the Victorian gold fields region.

Just a note about two of the side roads heading up to here from the south that are in the top 100 atlas. Seymour to Longwood is a bit of a dud in my opinion, straight and featureless I never saw anything of interest on it.
Euroa to Merton has a few curves over a small ridge or two and isnt a bad ride but not really worth making a special effort for , I would suggest going the more direct route via Yea than these two.
