Welcome

Hi and welcome to my personal blog Motorcycle Paradise, a collection of my riding experiences and the occasion random thought. This site and my attempts at photography are just a hobby and I'm not trying to make either into anything else so some of the road info and photos might be a few years old. More recent info and photos can be found in the ride reports and when I get some time I might transfer this to the original posts. I do not profess to be a word smith so slang, typos and grammar mistakes are all par for the course. Regards IC.

Good motorcycle roads # 9 Uki

Murwillumbah to Kyogle via Uki

Update 2011: The road has been flooded a couple of times in recent years and this has damaged some parts next to river south of Uki, as of writing they are also straightening the road there and while it will loose some curves the new road is going to flow rather nice and should offer riders a good experience still. The rest of the road has also had some work, a new bridge further south as well as some resurfacing. As of mid 2011 it is still a work in progress but this road should reemerge better than it ever was by late this year.

This is a nice ride to follow the Numminbah Valley or Currumbin Range.
Alternatively you can arrive at Kyogle from the Summerland Way after Mt Lindsey, more on these other roads in future posts.

This ride will take you through a magnificent area with 5 world heritage listed parks which is amazing when you think about it and perhaps more so that most everyone in Brisbane wouldnt even know that it was here. (good!)

Some smooth sweeping curves from Murwillumbah to Uki. The Uki pub has great meals and makes a good spot for lunch travelling in either direction if the timing fits. (Cafe at Kunghur also good)
From Uki the road travels through some valleys in farming areas and over a range or two into Kyogle. Some fantastic scenery and only a few cars on most weekends. Get here before it changes.

Mostly open corners but some twisty ones in a couple of parts, you certainly will enjoy this road and will not spend alot of time not turning a corner of some degree and there is two very nice sections either side of the small range as you move closer to Kyogle with tighter stuff.

The road surface is mixed and a bit bumpy in a few spots, this or that its not nearby means you wont see alot of supersports type bikes from Brisbane venture down this road but you will see plenty of other bikes given a nice day on this popular road.

  1. Take your Allen keys with you if you go through the tight bends towards Kyogle. You'll need them to re-do your fairing bolts. The best corners are in terrible condition.

  2. A few of corners south of Cawongla are bumpy. Two or three on the hill have needed fixing for years but you just slow down over them.

The lower section near the creek goes under in heavy rains and the road will slowly get buckled by trucks and after a few years they come along and resurface and the whole cycle begins anew.

These few corners are but a small fraction of an otherwise very popular ride however both cruisers with shallow rear suspension travel and sports bikes with track orientated suspension and ergonomics may wish to give it a miss - but that applies to half the roads or more on this blog I guess...

Good food in route at the Uki Pub, Uki Cafe and Sphinx Cafe, I always enjoy this road.
